Identified in the trial record as: Sucesos Memorables del Mundo

Commentary by Pavez Ojeda: “As discussed earlier, this a translation of the work by Sieur de Royaumond Prieur de Sombreval 1673 – L’histoire du vieux et du nouveau testament, avec des explications édifiantes, tirées des Saints Peres pour régler les moeurs dans toute fortes de conditions. – Paris: Pierre Le Petit. 576 pp. We still do not know exactly who is the author of this work: Nicolas Fontaine ou Le Maistre de Sacy. The work was translated to Spanish and published various times during the 18th century, with these different names for the author. I have been able to trace the following editions:

– Fontaine, Nicolas 1751-52. – Historia de sucesos memorables del mundo: con reflexiones instructivas para todos – trans. from Fr. to Span. by D. Leonardo de Uria y Orueta, Madrid : [s.n.], 4 v. ; in-8o;

– Le Maistre de Sacy, Isaac-Louis [Mr. de Royaumond, seud.] 1765-1779 – Historia de sucesos memorables del mundo, con reflexiones instructivas para todos – published in Spanish by D. Leonardo de Uria y Orueta, Madrid: Imprenta y Libreria de D. Antonio Mayoral; in-8o. The v. 3 in Madrid: Imp. y Libreria de D. Manuel Martín, 1779;

– Fontaine, Nicolas, 1775. – Historia de sucesos memorables del mundo -, Madrid : [s.n.], 3 v.; in-8o, Before the title.: Rollaumond, Mr. de.;

– Fontaine, Nicolas 1775.- Historia de sucesos memorables del mundo : con reflexiones instructivas para todos – Published in Spanish by D. Leonardo de Uría, Madrid : Manuel Martin, 1775, 4 v.; 8o;

– Fontaine, Nicolas. 1787-88 – Historia de sucesos memorables del Mundo: con reflexiones instructivas para todos – Published in Spanish by Don Leonardo de Uría y Orueta, Madrid: Alf. Lopez, 4 v.; in-8o (The 1oth volume only has the title page, and identifies it as the 40th part).

One can see here that there were various versions, some apocryphal, and with variations in authorship. For the purposes of this study, I have used the first French edition.” (Pavez Ojeda 2006a, 754-755)

Google Books provides access to a 1674 edition, published in Paris, of the original French version, as well as volume 1, volume 2, and volume 3 of a Spanish edition published in 1787 Madrid.
